A "rant" by Garry in response to an e-mail forward.

The original message ends just after Jay Leno's quote but please read on.
Thanks, Garry

THOSE BORN 1920-1979
READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were OK.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not every one made the t eam. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned...
HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!
The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'
For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us....go ahead and delete this. For the rest of us... pass this ON! WAIT !!! DON"T PASS THIS ON UNTIL YOU READ GARRY"S NOTES BELOW...Then decide.

Garry's rant:

As a Nutritionist, there can be an argument made as to why much of this is not recommended today. However, there is still a lot of truth to be found in it (although slightly skewed...see below).

We are the last generation of a simpler time.
A generation that is proud to have played outdoors.
Proud to have had personal contact with our friends, instead of texting from 2 doors down.
We are "the wise from a simpler time".
Many of our children however are growing up "green" almost intrinsically. They actually "get-it" that this planet needs to be cleaned up in order for it, and them, to survive. Unfortunately, we, "the wise from a simpler time", have been the major contributers to their indiscretions.
I refer here to their: video game, cell phone, television, internet, soda pop, fast food, sugar, addictions.
Our kids understand the need to recycle. To "clean-up" the land. To improve the environment that they live in.
But, they don't yet understand the hazards of buying into trends and convenience.
They don't yet see that the beauty products, or perfumes they wear are repackaged toxic waste materials that were deemed unsafe by the Government to dump safely, but allowed by the same Government to be sold for the purpose of wearing directly on the skin.
A Government comprised of, and elected by the "wise from a simpler time".
They also don't yet understand the hazards of Electro Magnetic Radiation from their: cell phones, wireless phones, microwaved food, computers, televisions, dvd players, x-box, wii, bluetooth technology, GPS, satellite television, etc. etc. etc. A technology created by "the wise from a simpler time" that again sets us apart from any other generation in the history of this magnificent planet.
And yet a technology that is a direct contributer to our own demise.
We are now the most unhealthiest generation, yet we are proud.
Proud that we "used to" play outdoors. Proud that we were the thinkers. The inventors. The risk takers.
Electro magnetic radiation from the technology that we are so proud of creating has caused so much damage on our immune systems that if we were to attempt to eat a worm, it WOULD probably live in us forever, plus all the other microbes that come with it. Add this to the fact that our diets of fast food and chemical additives have so damaged our digestive systems that they the worms, parasites, bacteria and microbes from the mud pie would almost certainly survive one of our bodies main defense systems - the acid in our stomachs.
Our highly acid producing diets of "convenience foods" have drained the minerals from our bones to such a degree that if we fell out those trees we used to climb, we would undoubtedly incurr injuries so severe that we would suffer the consequences until the last of our days.
Then again, those are coming quicker again. So it may not be all that long.
Yes, medical science has allowed our generation to be the longest surviving generation in all of recorded history. Unfortunately, the longest living doesn't relate to the quality of life.
"Modern medicines" treatment of most diseases these days is no where near the prescribed bed rest and vacations of days gone by. Our days are numbered as we compete against ourselves.
Recent reports show a steady decline in life expectancy these days.
It appears the later generation of "the wise from a simpler time" may not survive as long as their great-grandparents after all.

I find it extremely interesting that we fear chemical warfare.
In fact we send our Military en-masse into a Country that is suspected of having "weapons of mass destruction" to "neutralize" the situation. Yet, when we get sick we SUPPORT chemical warfare on our own ground.
We put the responsibility of our own health in someone else's hands and happily take the chemicals they recommend to fight our own battles.
We then even give them to our children when they are feeling ill.
Im pretty sure our children wouldn't support chemical warfare, internally or externally, if they didn't have our preconceived notions to deal with.
And lets go back to the electro magnetic radiation for a minute.
Why is it that we can prescribed to the belief an "unseen" God, and conversely an "unseen" opposing force (some call the devil), but yet we refuse to believe that the technologies that we have created send out "unseen" damaging radiation.
A force that can only be viewed as the opposite of Love as it creates damage.

Maybe instead of holding the beginning of this letter in the faces of our kids and telling them how good "the wise of a simpler time" have been, we should show them the damage we have created to their World, ask for their forgiveness, and then team up with them to reverse the damage.
Maybe then we could become the proud and truly "wise from a simpler time".

(You have my permission to forward this on. I feel this is a message that needs to be thought about by a lot of people.)
